The snow was just melting off of the picnic table as we left the camper in the morning to go and visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The lodge and overlook were absolutely stunning. Man, is that a big hole in the ground. Clear skies with light fluffy clouds and 50 mile an hour winds. Shock of the day, we paid $4.19 a gallon for gas at the only gas station on the road at Jacob Lake and then when we entered the park it turned out there was a gas station on the park grounds that was only $3.40! Oh well, you win some and you lose some. We also traveled to overlooks 23 miles away in the next canyon.
We left the Grand Canyon early Wednesday before the forecasted snow was to arrive, to head towards Zion. On the way, we stopped at Pipe Springs National Monument. This is an old Morman fort from the mid 1870’s that was built over the only spring in the area. Turned out to be a very worthwhile visit and the Park Service gave an excellent interpretive program of life at the fort.
