Aztec New Mexico

Old town Albuquerque turned out to be a very quaint area filled with Old Spanish style buildings and many plazas and squares to wander through.   We spent a few hours there and then headed towards Aztec New Mexico.  On Monday, we visited the Aztec ruins. This is the remains of the early inhabitants of the area who are known as the Anasazi or ancient ones.  The ruins date back about 1100 years and consist of 500 interconnected rooms as well as large common buildings called Kivas. You could go into rooms where you could see the original beams in the ceilings.  It was baffling to try and figure out how these ancient people managed to build such complex structures.
