Canyon country

White House Ruins
Spider Rock

We passed the 3,400 mile mark and headed out for Canyon De Chelly National Monument in Chinle Arizona on Sunday morning.   We drove through four Corners (New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona).  Pulled up to the park and settled in a campsite on the Navajo reservation.   After lunch we hiked to the White House Ruins, they were made famous by Ansel Adams.  It was only a 3 mile round trip hike but seeing as it was all downhill on the way there….. the hike back up to the top of the mesa was a bit rigorous.  The view is spectacular with canyon walls that are 600-1000 feet high.   The walls are straight up from the canyon floor to the top of the mesa.   The rest of the day was spent exploring the reservation.  I got some earrings from an old Indian woman who was making jewelry and selling them near one of the overlooks.  We saw horses wandering around on the open ranges and took in the sites.
