Capitol Reef is a less well known National Park located in Utah. The center of the park is situated where a Mormon settlement of 8 families had been settled in the 1870’s. The town was named Fruita because the settlers found that they could raise apples, peaches, cherries and apricots in large orchards. The last inhabitants left in 1961 and many descendents still reside in the vicinity. The weather was perfect while we were there and we enjoyed several days exploring the park. While Capitol Reef is not as developed as Zion or Bryce, the hiking trails afforded views of beautiful scenery.
